Overview
An established engineering services organisation is seeking a Distribution Designer to support utility infrastructure projects within its Utility Services team. This role focuses on overhead distribution design, pole attachment applications, and network improvement initiatives. The position offers a remote working arrangement with a mix of office-based design work and occasional field activities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in improving network reliability and supporting the safe and efficient delivery of power and communications infrastructure. Key Responsibilities

Conduct field inspections to identify and document existing utility assets, equipment, and construction conditions, including rights-of-way

Develop engineering designs for pole replacements, joint-use attachments, and communication space rearrangements in accordance with applicable safety and regulatory standards

Analyse field data and imagery and update design information within engineering and business systems

Support the attachment permitting process and related engineering workflows

Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to determine practical and cost-effective design solutions

Manage assigned work to meet project schedules and budget requirements, providing regular status updates

Prepare accurate documentation to support project tracking, invoicing, and financial reporting

Record measurements and field observations using appropriate tools and methods

Travel to project locations as required and attend stakeholder meetings

Work safely in a variety of environments, including residential, commercial, and industrial areas

Occasionally access high-voltage utility environments in coordination with authorised personnel
Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 3 years of experience in utility fieldwork, construction, drafting, or technical design
OR -
Associate Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline with up to 2 years of relevant experience

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage data throughout the full project lifecycle

Ability to prioritise multiple projects and communicate progress effectively

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general engineering or business software tools

Clear written and verbal communication skills

Practical problem-solving ability and sound judgement

Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation

Ability to travel, including overnight stays when required

Ability to work both remotely and from field or office environments as needed

Willingness to comply with workplace safety and regulatory testing requirements where applicable
