Cost Control Leader

Location: Lulea, Sweden
Assignment Type: Annually Renewable Contract
Residential / Rotation: 4 weeks on site, 1 week remote; 5 days per week, 8 hours per day
Sector: Green Steel / EPC Construction
Compensation: Monthly rate, accommodation and flights covered, paid holiday leave

Role Overview

We are partnered with a multinational engineering, consulting, and architecture organisation delivering a Green Steel project in Northern Sweden. The Cost Control Leader is a senior cost management professional responsible for overseeing budget control, financial reporting, risk management, and cost variance mitigation. The role acts as the interface between project management, finance, and client leadership, producing high-level cost analyses and reports while validating data in systems such as UNIFIER to ensure full contractual and financial compliance across all project areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage high-level cost control meetings with management and clients

  • Collaborate with project management and finance teams to ensure accurate accounting and allocation of operating costs

  • Decide on corrective measures for cost variances based on expenditure monitoring

  • Generate high-level financial reports highlighting key metrics, trends, and issues relevant to the client and stakeholders

  • Identify and approve financial risks, manage contingencies, and develop mitigation strategies to avoid cost overruns

  • Review and manage contractual costs, ensuring compliance with financial conditions

  • Analyse the overall status of project costs provided by the cost control team across all cost accounts

  • Review and validate UNIFIER information for project cost control

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree or higher qualification

  • More than 10 years of experience in large and complex projects as a Cost Control Leader, Manager, or similar role

  • Strong experience in financial analysis, budgeting, cost estimation, project management, and cost saving strategies

  • Proficiency in relevant software and systems, including UNIFIER

  • Knowledge of document management methodologies and tools

  • Exceptional attention to detail and proactive mindset

  • Strategic planning, risk management, problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical decision making, and negotiation skills

  • Ability to support senior consultants in project execution

  • Understanding of the sequence and phases of large industrial projects

  • Team player with technical rigor and advanced English proficiency
