Cost Control Engineer

Location: Lulea, Sweden
Assignment Type: Annually Renewable Contract
Residential / Rotation: 4 weeks on office/site, 1 week remote, on rotation; 5 days per week, 8 hours per day

Role Overview

We are partnered with a multinational engineering, consulting, and architecture organisation delivering a Green Steel project in Northern Sweden. The Cost Control Engineer supports Cost Control Leaders and project teams with detailed cost tracking, forecasting, reporting, contract cost verification, and system data validation. The role is responsible for day-to-day monitoring of project expenditure, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and early identification of financial risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support project cost tracking, budget monitoring, forecasting, and variance analysis

  • Prepare cost reports for internal management and client review under leadership guidance

  • Monitor cost controls across assigned work packages / Contract Areas (CAs)

  • Input, review, and validate project cost data within UNIFIER and other cost management systems

  • Support identification of cost trends, risks, and early warning indicators

  • Assist with managing change orders, variations, and accrued costs in line with contract conditions

  • Coordinate with project controls, engineering, procurement, and finance teams to ensure cost data accuracy and completeness

  • Assist with contingency tracking and risk register updates

  • Maintain cost control documentation and reporting in accordance with project procedures

  • Support senior cost control leadership during audits, reviews, and client cost control meetings

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in Engineering, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in project cost control, cost engineering, project controls, or a related role within large industrial or construction projects

  • Working knowledge of cost tracking, budgeting, forecasting, cost variance analysis, and reporting methodologies

  • Experience using cost management tools / project systems such as UNIFIER, Primavera P6, Excel, SAP, or similar platforms

  • Understanding of contract structures, change management processes, and cost compliance monitoring

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail

  • Ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary project teams

  • Clear communication skills and ability to support reporting to senior stakeholders

  • Strong organisational skills with a proactive, problem-solving mindset

  • Fluent English (written and spoken)
