Cost Controller / Accountant

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Cost Controller / Accountant to manage cost accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting for a manufacturing operation. The role involves analysing cost data, monitoring inventories, preparing financial reports, and supporting management in improving efficiency and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse and track costs related to manufacturing and operations to improve efficiency and profitability.

  • Collect, interpret, and report cost data; conduct variance analysis and provide actionable insights.

  • Prepare financial reports and budgets using the percentage of completion method.

  • Monitor, control, and manage foreign currency transactions and overseas account payments.

  • Provide inventory costing analysis for raw materials, work in progress, and finished products; make recommendations on inventory levels.

  • Verify inventories against accounting records regularly.

  • Calculate unit costs for finished products, including raw materials, fixed, and variable overheads; prepare breakeven analyses.

  • Support finance and accounting functions, including cost accounting, product costing, and shipment analysis.

  • Prepare monthly production reports, highlighting yields, obsolescence, ordering costs, and inventory carrying costs.

  • Determine optimal inventory levels based on past performance and projected targets.

  • Compile financial analyses to support accounting entries and other delegated duties.

  • Assist in preparing, monitoring, and analysing monthly and yearly budgets.

  • Review and monitor accounting systems for efficiency and control.

  • Participate in staff training and professional development programs as required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Accountant or Financial Controller & Policy & Planning Manager.

Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Business Administration or Commerce with a major in Accounting.

  • CPA qualification and eligibility for membership with the Papua New Guinea Institute of Accountants.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an accountant in a manufacturing environment, with emphasis on cost accounting, budgeting, auditing, and process/system review.

  • Strong analytical, planning, and organisational skills.

  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
