Cost Controller / Accountant

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Cost Controller / Accountant to manage cost accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting for a manufacturing operation. The role involves analysing cost data, monitoring inventories, preparing financial reports, and supporting management in improving efficiency and profitability.
Key Responsibilities

Analyse and track costs related to manufacturing and operations to improve efficiency and profitability.

Collect, interpret, and report cost data; conduct variance analysis and provide actionable insights.

Prepare financial reports and budgets using the percentage of completion method.

Monitor, control, and manage foreign currency transactions and overseas account payments.

Provide inventory costing analysis for raw materials, work in progress, and finished products; make recommendations on inventory levels.

Verify inventories against accounting records regularly.

Calculate unit costs for finished products, including raw materials, fixed, and variable overheads; prepare breakeven analyses.

Support finance and accounting functions, including cost accounting, product costing, and shipment analysis.

Prepare monthly production reports, highlighting yields, obsolescence, ordering costs, and inventory carrying costs.

Determine optimal inventory levels based on past performance and projected targets.

Compile financial analyses to support accounting entries and other delegated duties.

Assist in preparing, monitoring, and analysing monthly and yearly budgets.

Review and monitor accounting systems for efficiency and control.

Participate in staff training and professional development programs as required.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Accountant or Financial Controller & Policy & Planning Manager.
Skills and Experience

Degree in Business Administration or Commerce with a major in Accounting.

CPA qualification and eligibility for membership with the Papua New Guinea Institute of Accountants.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an accountant in a manufacturing environment, with emphasis on cost accounting, budgeting, auditing, and process/system review.

Strong analytical, planning, and organisational skills.

Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
