Job Description
A prominent energy project in London is seeking a Contracts & Cost Control Engineer to join their CCS project team. In this role, you will support the Work Package Manager with the daily management of assigned contracts, ensuring efficient cost control, contractual compliance, accurate forecasting, and risk mitigation throughout the project lifecycle. Key responsibilities include verifying contractor proforma invoices, validating unit rates and quantities, and reviewing Variation Orders for alignment with contract terms, supporting documents, and approved benchmarks. You will ensure that all costs, changes, and deliverables adhere to contract conditions, company policies, and project objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Work Package Manager in applying EPC contract terms and ensuring contractor compliance.
- Lead the verification and approval of contractor pro-forma invoices: confirm milestones, reported quantities, unit rates, and contractual compliance.
- Coordinate with the Project Control Department.
- Review contractor timesheets, procurement documents, equipment logs, and cost reports.
- Verify supporting documentation with engineering and construction teams and identify non-reimbursable or non-compliant items.
- Review Variation Orders (VOs) to ensure alignment with contract terms and approved benchmarks.
- Support cost and cash-flow forecasting; identify unauthorised or unsupported costs and propose corrective actions.
- Maintain logs for invoices, costs, and variations; prepare Work/Service Orders and SAP uploads as needed.
- Prepare or review contractual correspondence and support Change Management activities.
Requirements:
- Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
- Extensive experience in cost control and contract engineering on EPC projects in the execution phase.
- Strong experience with unit-rate reimbursable contracts or BoQ-based measurement systems.
- Demonstrated reporting experience.
- Proficiency in quantity measurement, BoQ interpretation, and unit-rate analysis.
- Solid understanding of EPC contract structures and change-control mechanisms.
- Experience using cost-control tools (such as SAP, Prism, or EcoSys) and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and construction methods.
- Ability to write reports and documentation conforming to prescribed styles and formats.
- Proficient computer skills: email, record-keeping, database use, word processing, and graphics.
- Ability to read, analyse, and interpret engineering, scientific, technical, financial, and legal documents.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills with a strong sense of ethics and protocol.
- Flexible and able to handle high workloads, including working additional hours when needed.
- Confident in managing enquiries or complaints and adept at prioritising effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills, capable of working with limited standardisation and varied inputs.
- Able to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and scheduled instructions.
- Organised multitasker with solid time-management skills and systematic approach.
- Proactive, self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and adaptable to evolving requirements.
