Client: Pioneering Green Steel Production Company
Assignment Type: Annually Renewable Contract – Residential
Location: Stockholm, Sweden
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8 hour days

Kintec are currently partnered with a pioneering Green Steel Production Company who are constructing a plant in Northern Sweden that will produce Green Steel – Green Steel production emits up to 95% less CO₂ compared conventional steel production.

Description:

As a Technical Process Safety Specialist for the CLIENT project, your role is critical in supporting the safe and compliant design and operation of the project’s assets. You contribute with expertise to ensure that all facilities are designed with a strong focus on safety, minimizing risks to staff, contractors, and the surrounding community. This involves close collaboration with design & engineering consultants & contractors and equipment vendors to review and validate safety aspects of the design. You will contribute to the development and application of safety standards for the project, aligned with applicable regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Technical Process Safety Specialist will report to Technical Process Safety Lead under the Central Engineering Department Organization. This position is based at Stockholm HQ of CLIENT. Candidate should be flexible to work and travel to Northern Sweden project site as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting Design Safety: Contribute to ensuring that the design of all project facilities prioritizes safety and minimizes risks. This includes reviewing and validating safety aspects together with engineering contractors and equipment vendors.
  • Applying Safety Standards: Support the development, interpretation, and implementation of safety standards based on regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Ensure that these standards are consistently applied across the project.
  • Regulatory Requirements Analysis: Collaborate with regulatory bodies and third-party specialists to identify and understand relevant regulatory requirements. Stay updated on applicable regulations and support interpretation of their impact on the project.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with engineering teams, contractors, vendors, and regulatory bodies to ensure alignment on safety requirements. Contribute to effective communication of safety-related information and support resolution of compliance-related questions.
  • Supporting Compliance Activities: Contribute to ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and safety standards by participating in monitoring, reviews, inspections, and audits as needed.
  • By contributing with technical expertise in these areas, you support the delivery of a safe and legally compliant asset that protects the well-being of workers and the surrounding community.Classification and Effects Management

Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree, MSc, in a relevant discipline, with preference to Chemical Engineering Background
  • At least ten years’ experience in large-scale industrial projects (50 MUSD+) and/or site experience (steel mill, mining, paper mill, utilities generation, LNG, Hydrogen, Oil & Gas, petrochemicals, refinery etc.), with a minimum of five years in a technical process safety-related role. Steel Plant experience will have the advantage.Experience in HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, QRA, Risk Assessments, Functional Safety, BAT, Occupational Safety, Hazards, Fire Safety, ATEX, Hazardous Area. Additional experience of Noise Study, Consequence Analysis, Action Error Analysis, Interface Assessment, Machine Safety will be an advantage.
  • Experience with hydrogen systems / LNG / metal industry in major projects is a strong advantage.
  • Knowledge of relevant Swedish / European / EU / international standards, laws, and regulations related to technical process safety and industrial safety is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant permitting systems and consent-to-operate processes for major industrial plants is required.
  • Having knowledge of Swedish language will be an added advantage.
