Construction Lead - Marine/Dredging Works
Location: Qatar Onshore (Doha initially, then Ras Laffan Project Site Offices)
Contract Duration: 36 Months (with possibility of extension)
Work Schedule: 10 hours/day, 5 days/week (22 days/month)
Estimated Start Date: February 2026
We are seeking a Construction Lead for a major marine and dredging project. The role will provide supervision and coordination of EPC construction activities, with a focus on port dredging, land reclamation, and offshore civil works.
Job Purpose
- Oversee EPC construction activities for marine/dredging projects.
- Review engineering documents from FEED and detail design phases related to construction.
- Manage initial focus on dredging and area reclamation works.
Reporting & Relationships
- Reports to Project Manager (Dredging).
- Direct reports: None.
- Frequent internal contact with project teams and operations departments.
- Frequent external contact with EPC contractors, subcontractors, vendors, specialist consultants, and port authorities.
Job Context & Major Challenges
- Complex marine and underwater works in a busy port environment.
- Coordinate dredging, land reclamation, sediment disposal, and breakwater construction under tight quality and environmental standards.
- Critical scheduling and resource management to minimise downtime.
- Ensure regulatory and environmental compliance in line with Qatar standards.
- Manage interfaces between port infrastructure, dredging contractors, shipping operations, and terminal activities.
- Innovate in construction execution and methods, leveraging experience from previous large-scale projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a safety leader, participate in Toolbox Talks, task instructions, and site safety walkthroughs.
- Oversee site mobilisation, manpower planning, and execution of major construction packages.
- Manage interfaces with engineering, procurement, commissioning teams, and contractors.
- Review and approve construction deliverables submitted by EPC contractors.
- Monitor progress, productivity, costs, change orders, and schedules, implementing mitigation actions as needed.
- Resolve field issues in collaboration with engineering and project stakeholders.
- Evaluate contractor performance, ensure safety compliance, and manage inspections.
- Manage RFIs, change orders, progress payments, and communications with contractors and consultants.
- Assist in the development of Project Execution Plans, Safety Plans, and QA/QC plans specific to marine/dredging works.
- Monitor delivery of EPC materials to the project site.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering.
- Minimum 8 years' experience in construction, including at least 4 years in the Oil & Gas industry and 1 year in a supervisory or oversight role.
- Extensive experience working with EPC contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and service companies.
- Knowledge of all phases of project execution, including start-up, handover, and technical issue resolution.
- Experience in berth design and seabed dredging is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of EPC/EPCI processes, ASME/API codes, constructability reviews, risk assessments, and job safety analysis.
- Proficiency in construction scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project, cost tracking, and quality systems.
