Process Safety Specialist – COMAH (Remote, UK & Ireland)

The Opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) team that supports multiple COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) sites across the UK. Due to continued growth and increasing workload, the team is expanding and looking for a skilled Process Safety Specialist to take on a key role in driving process safety performance across the organisation.

In this role, you’ll work remotely while providing specialist process safety leadership and expertise to seven COMAH operations across the UK and Ireland.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement tools, processes, and systems to assess and improve process safety management performance across multiple sites.

  • Lead incident reviews, root cause analysis, risk assessments, and safety critical device management.

  • Oversee process safety performance indicators, audit programmes, and management reviews.

  • Identify training needs and deliver tailored training and competence assessments in process safety management.

  • Manage ad-hoc process safety challenges, such as new legislation, regulatory requirements, or complex problem-solving initiatives.

  • Work closely with the Regional SHEQ Advisor network to ensure process safety standards are maintained and continuously improved.

  • Act as a key interface with regulatory bodies and ensure regulatory compliance across COMAH operations.


Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in writing, contributing to, or coordinating COMAH safety reports.

  • Strong understanding of UK COMAH regulations and process safety legislation.

  • Confident working with regulators and representing the organisation during inspections and audits.

  • Experience in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and implementing corrective actions.

  • Strong knowledge of process safety management systems and best practices within chemical, petrochemical or similar high-hazard industries.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently while collaborating across multiple sites.
