Commissioning Lead (Electrical)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Lead (Electrical) to join a major long-term onshore project in Tianjin, China. The successful candidate will oversee commissioning activities, working closely with EPC contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery.

This is a senior-level role that requires a strong background in electrical commissioning for large-scale oil and gas projects. You will provide technical direction, support project teams, and act as the focal point for commissioning activities throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide commissioning oversight and direction to contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.

  • Review and verify commissioning documentation, procedures, and reports.

  • Witness and sign off tests and check sheets in line with project requirements.

  • Act as focal point for FATs and SATs, ensuring compliance with project deliverables.

  • Support qualification of suppliers and technical evaluation of vendor proposals.

  • Apply lessons learned from past projects and share knowledge with project teams.

  • Monitor contractor manpower loading and recommend adjustments when needed.

  • Support engineering teams in meeting procurement and construction milestones.

  • Contribute to quality audits, progress reporting, and risk-based evaluations.

  • Collaborate with cross-discipline teams and provide technical guidance on electrical and instrumentation commissioning.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or applied sciences.

  • Minimum 8 years’ commissioning experience in the oil and gas industry, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or oversight role.

  • Strong technical background in electrical systems including LV/MV/HV switchgear, power management systems, protection relays, and power generation equipment.

  • Experience with project completions, systemization, commissioning procedures, and method statements.

  • Familiarity with pre-startup safety reviews, completions walkdowns, and commissioning delivery processes.

  • Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and compliance requirements.

  • Proficient in interpreting P&IDs, datasheets, and technical drawings.

  • Experience working with vendors in the LNG, oil, and gas sectors.

  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and advanced computer literacy.

  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.

Assignment Details

  • Location: Tianjin, China (onshore)

  • Work Schedule: 10 hours per day, 6 days per week (26 days per month)

  • Contract Term: 36 months

  • Estimated Start Date: ASAP

  • Estimated End Date: June 2028
