Telecoms Commissioning Engineer (Oil & Gas)
Location: Doha, Qatar (Onshore)
Contract Duration: 36 months
Work Pattern: 6 days per week, 8–10 hours per day (rotation: 12 weeks on / 2 weeks off)
Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Telecoms Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of a major onshore energy project in Qatar. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in large-scale, technically complex environments and enjoys being at the forefront of commissioning and start-up activities.
You will play a key role in ensuring telecom systems are installed, tested, and commissioned in line with project requirements, industry standards, and safety expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support commissioning activities across telecom systems within a large-scale oil and gas project
- Carry out system walkdowns, punch listing, and pre-startup safety reviews
- Ensure all telecom systems are tested, commissioned, and handed over in line with project specifications
- Review and interpret engineering documentation including drawings, datasheets, and procedures
- Perform fibre optic and copper cable testing, analysis, and fault finding
- Oversee commissioning of radio systems, access control, telephony, PAGA, and CCTV systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across telecom systems
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
- Ensure compliance with project standards, technical specifications, and industry codes
- Provide support during start-up and handover to operations
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in commissioning within the oil and gas industry
- At least 1 year in a supervisory or oversight capacity
- Strong understanding of commissioning processes, system completions, and project phases
- Experience with networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, and cybersecurity principles
- Proven expertise in telecom systems including fibre optics, radio systems, and integrated communication systems
- Experience working on large-scale onshore or offshore facilities
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation such as P&IDs and GA drawings
- Strong organisational, coordination, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure with changing priorities
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
Additional Information
- Experience in LNG or sour gas environments is advantageous
- Previous experience working with major operators, EPC contractors, or service companies is preferred
- Familiarity with global vendors and telecom equipment suppliers is beneficial
- Willingness to travel as required
