Commercial Energy Lawyer - Infrastructure / Projects / Retail
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid working)
Contract Type: Permanent

A leading UK energy and infrastructure organisation is expanding its in-house legal team to support a diverse portfolio of commercial energy solutions and large-scale infrastructure projects.

You will be involved in complex, high-value programmes supporting both public and private sector clients, covering everything from development through to delivery and operation.

The Role
You will provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice across a mix of infrastructure, project and/or consumer energy workstreams.
Experience is offered across the full lifecycle - from early-stage development and procurement through to construction, operation, and customer delivery.

Key Responsibilities
- Advise on energy and infrastructure projects including renewable and low-carbon solutions
- Support a range of commercial contracts (e.g. energy services, supply, private networks, off-take arrangements)
- Provide legal input across procurement, construction, and operational phases
- Advise on complex commercial arrangements, metering, and regulatory matters
- Support joint ventures, partnerships, M&A, and internal structuring (projects focus)
- Contribute to bids and strategic collaborations with public sector organisations
- Support development of large-scale heat and energy infrastructure schemes
- Advise on consumer offerings, tariffs, and regulatory compliance (retail focus)
- Partner with internal stakeholders to deliver clear, commercially aligned legal advice

What You'll Bring
- Qualified Solicitor or Barrister (UK or equivalent)
- Experience in one or more of the following:
-- Commercial / infrastructure contracts
-- Corporate / project work (M&A, JVs, partnerships)
-- Consumer / regulatory law (financial or retail focus)
- Strong commercial mindset with a solutions-focused approach
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Desirable
- Background in energy, infrastructure, or regulated sectors
- Familiarity with energy supply agreements or infrastructure projects
- In-house experience or exposure to large frameworks/programmes
- Experience in customer-focused or retail environments (for relevant roles)
