Commercial Accountant - Oil and Gas
Location: Aberdeen, UK

We are seeking a skilled Commercial Accountant to join a leading organisation in the oil and gas sector. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment and enjoys working closely with technical teams to ensure commercial success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and guidance to project teams on contract and commercial matters, ensuring analysis and reporting requirements are met within deadlines.

  • Understand commercial terms and administration requirements for allocated contracts to help manage and mitigate risks.

  • Act as the commercial point of contact with clients and attend meetings as required.

  • Prepare client monthly reports, including value of works, spend forecasts, commitments, budgets, business plans, and incentive schemes.

  • Monitor the financial performance of each contract by preparing monthly management accounts, forecasts, and budgets.

  • Ensure internal cost reporting meets corporate accounting and commercial requirements, tracking recovery against costs and resolving issues promptly.

  • Support project teams with ongoing commercial analysis regarding expenditures, commitments, forecasts, and contract performance.

  • Monitor KPI performance and highlight areas for improvement to optimise financial return.

  • Review and approve third-party invoices against subcontract agreements where required.

  • Complete labour and third-party reconciliations monthly or quarterly.

  • Identify and support the drafting of contract amendments when required.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Finance, or Accountancy (preferred).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • ERP system experience.

  • Knowledge of contract law and management.

  • Strong budgeting, re-forecasting, cost-reporting, and monthly accounts experience.

  • Skilled in interpreting contractual documentation.

  • Experience in preparing cost/commercial reports and analysing variances and trends.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines.

  • Oil and gas industry experience.
