Chief Business Officer – Marine and Asset Integration Solutions

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Employment Type: Fixed-term contract (24 months)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a strategic and dynamic Chief Business Officer to lead and oversee marine and asset integration business activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for securing current and future business opportunities, managing strategic contracts, optimising facility utilisation to maximise profitability, and enhancing the organisation’s position as a preferred provider in the marine repair and conversion sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Strategy & Planning

  • Develop, lead, and review short, medium, and long-term marine business strategies to support sustainable growth in a competitive and evolving market.

  • Direct operational activities related to marine repair and conversion services to ensure compliance, operational excellence, risk mitigation, and customer satisfaction.

  • Plan and optimise the use of marine repair facilities, including docks, quays, maritime, and scaffolding services to meet business objectives.

Business Performance

  • Monitor business performance against budgets and plans, and lead corrective actions to address any shortfalls.

  • Drive initiatives to improve revenue and profitability.

  • Ensure optimal utilisation rates of drydocks, land-berths, and floating docks.

Business Development & Research

  • Collaborate across departments to expand product and service offerings aligned with business strategy and capacity.

  • Analyse business data to identify profitable segments and manage risk exposure.

  • Define and forecast the number of marine projects to align with resource planning.

Capability Building

  • Lead initiatives to develop the marine business team’s skills and competencies, ensuring effective delivery across business development, commercial, estimating, and customer service functions.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Oversee customer service operations within the marine division to ensure high-quality service delivery.

  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships to drive future business opportunities.

Bidding Management

  • Lead the commercial team in managing bid processes and ensure smooth handover to operations for awarded contracts.

  • Ensure continuity and minimise risk in contract execution.

Work Culture & Leadership

  • Foster a positive, collaborative work culture that encourages commitment, productivity, and high service standards.

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to cultivate future leaders and drive organisational success.

Requirements:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related discipline.

  • At least 25 years of relevant experience in the marine industry, including 10 years in senior management roles.

  • Extensive knowledge of shipyard operations, vessel repair, and commercial business development.

  • Proven success in managing marine projects, business development, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to lead diverse teams and work effectively with various stakeholders.

  • Strong ethical standards and integrity.
