Transport & Operations Manager

About the Role
We are partnering with a growing industrial process solutions company expanding its UK operations. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer or operations professional who enjoys combining technical insight, team leadership, and day-to-day operational management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of bulk delivery drivers across a defined region, ensuring high performance, accountability, and consistent service levels

  • Drive operational excellence by meeting KPIs, controlling costs, and maintaining safety and regulatory compliance

  • Review performance with management and implement corrective actions as required

  • Take ownership of budget management, variance reporting, and operational updates

  • Develop resource plans to reduce costs and improve delivery efficiency

  • Oversee legal compliance, including vehicle maintenance, driver standards, and licensing requirements

  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure all drivers are fully trained and competent

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, performance reviews, and disciplinary processes

  • Address underperformance with structured improvement plans

  • Maintain clear communication with the team through briefings, updates, and aligned objectives

  • Monitor fuel usage, mileage, and driver performance metrics

  • Investigate delivery failures promptly and implement corrective actions

  • Conduct daily driver debriefs, manage system inputs, and issue weekly shift plans

  • Oversee absence management, resource planning, and delivery documentation

  • Maintain event logs, complete development discussions, and run monthly driver meetings

  • Ensure all safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) documentation is accurate and compliant

Person Specification

  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Transport Management or willingness to obtain — essential

  • NEBOSH qualification advantageous

  • Strong knowledge of distribution and transport operations

  • Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-moving, operational environment

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills

  • Safety-focused and able to maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in transport management or logistics operations

  • Track record of leading delivery teams and implementing operational improvements

  • Confident in managing budgets, KPIs, and compliance metrics
