Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Budget Controller to join a major energy project in Qatar. The role is responsible for monitoring and controlling project budgets, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting project teams with cost management. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience working in large-scale energy or engineering projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare annual budgets (CAPEX, OPEX, and non-routine) and ensure accurate mapping in financial systems

  • Prepare budget revisions and supplementary budgets with appropriate justification and documentation

  • Prepare and validate authorization for expenditure requests in compliance with company procedures

  • Ensure adherence to budget control procedures and internal work instructions

  • Review financial postings and advise on correct allocation of cost codes and project elements

  • Coordinate with project, planning, and cost teams to ensure timely and accurate recording of expenditures

  • Provide guidance and solutions to project teams on budget and cost issues

  • Ensure invoices are processed on time and returned to finance within agreed timelines

  • Analyse monthly and quarterly variances, identify root causes, and implement mitigation actions with project teams

  • Review project status and completion certificates to ensure proper financial reporting and compliance

  • Participate in continuous improvement of budget control processes and reporting

  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analyses as requested

  • Support the development and coaching of local staff

Qualifications and Experience

  • University or college degree in financial accounting, or CPA, ACCA, CGMA, or equivalent

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in project cost and budget control, preferably in the energy or oil and gas industry

  • Proficient in SAP or similar financial systems, particularly in project and procurement modules

  • Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel and PowerPoint

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience coaching and developing team members
