INTRODUCTION
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a BIM Plant Design / 3D Model Engineer to support the development of major industrial facilities. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Project Manager, you will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and managing 3D modelling activities across production units and supporting infrastructure. This position ensures technical excellence, cross-discipline consistency, and compliance with schedule and budget requirements, while advancing digital engineering through BIM workflows and 3D modelling tools. Location is Paris with occasional travel to project sites in southern France.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Technical Coordination
- Ensure technical consistency across project work packages, including piping, structural, civil, HVAC, fire systems, electrical, instrumentation, and HSE within the 3D model environment.
- Plan, monitor, and control design activities; proactively identify deviations and risks, uphold deadlines, cost targets, and quality standards.
- Serve as the design authority for piping layouts and general arrangements.
- Lead 3D model reviews, focusing on operability, maintenance, and constructability.
- Deliverables include Bills of Material (BOMs), isometric drawings, and related documentation.
- Prepare and lead internal progress meetings with structured reporting for Project Managers.
2. Design, 3D Modelling & Document Validation
- Define modularisation strategy and develop BIM/3D modelling standards in collaboration with external engineering partners; contribute toward future Digital Twin integration.
- Provide expert guidance on 3D modelling software administration.
- Lead 3D modelling activities using tools such as E3D, S3D, MicroStation, AutoCAD, or Revit.
- Produce and validate plant layout drawings and general views.
- Validate isometrics, general arrangements, piping flexibility analyses, stress reports, and material requisitions from in-house teams and vendors.
- Review and provide optimisation recommendations for piping classes.
- Check document quality and compliance with internal standards and industry norms (ASME, EN, ISO).
- Drive and coordinate design reviews (layout, piping, constructability, HSE) and ensure updates are integrated in the digital model.
3. Interdisciplinary Coordination & Document Management
- Coordinate technical data and model information between multiple engineering disciplines (process, civil, instrumentation, electrical, HSE, etc.).
- Manage the distribution, revision, and traceability of engineering documents (P&IDs, line lists, isometrics, layouts, calculation notes, vendor drawings, requisitions, etc.).
- Track vendor documentation and incorporate pertinent updates into the 3D model.
- Facilitate regular project coordination meetings; liaise effectively with engineering teams.
4. Project Follow-Up, Site Support & Continuous Improvement
- Provide technical support during on-site construction activities, including model updates, deviation management, and troubleshooting.
- Identify, document, and quantify changes arising during engineering and construction phases.
- Contribute to HSE and constructability reviews, ensuring safe and compliant design outcomes.
- Promote and support continuous improvement in digital engineering tools, modelling methods, and BIM practices.
- Advocate for the adoption of BIM and collaborative digital technologies across teams.
PROFILE
Education
- Master's degree in Mechanical, Process, or Piping Engineering (or equivalent).
Experience
- Minimum 10 years' experience in industrial environments as a piping or BIM engineer within continuous or heavy-process industries.
- Demonstrated experience in 3D model reviews, clash detection, and collaborative model management workflows.
Key Competencies
- Fluency in English and professional proficiency in French.
- Strong understanding of piping codes and standards (ASME, EN, ISO).
- Competence in flexibility analysis, layout design, BIM data management, and model administration.
- Solid understanding of multidisciplinary engineering workflows and interfaces.
- Knowledge of constructability, HSE design constraints, and operational considerations.
