Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Engineer for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to support large-scale renewable energy and hybrid power projects. The role involves leading the design, engineering, integration, and commissioning of battery storage and associated systems, working closely with multi-discipline teams and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engineering design and optimisation of BESS, including battery chemistry, duty cycling, performance evaluation (Round Trip Efficiency, Cycle Life), safety, and inverter systems
- Deliver engineering projects for energy storage in consulting or industrial environments
- Conduct system studies and perform root cause analysis to provide reliable solutions
- Design hybrid renewable energy systems including Solar PV, Wind, and Battery Storage
- Work hands-on with engineering software such as MATLAB/Simulink, ETAP, Homer, and scripting tools for simulation and control logic validation
- Design integration with MV/HV substations, including panel architecture, heat ventilation, and temperature rise calculations
- Develop and review technical specifications for tenders and ensure compliance with project requirements
- Conduct engineering reviews, quality assurance checks, and approval of design drawings, reports, and other deliverables
- Provide technical guidance and installation support during the construction and commissioning phases
- Prepare FAT specifications, test plans, and review test reports
- Ensure full compliance with quality and health & safety procedures, and operate within company design management processes
- Coordinate with multi-discipline teams including civil, instrumentation, and CAD engineering
- Interface with external vendors, suppliers, and project stakeholders as required
- Ensure project deliverables are met on schedule and align with technical specifications
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Energy, or related Engineering discipline
- 12-18 years of relevant experience in BESS and hybrid renewable energy projects
- Proven hands-on experience in battery systems, inverters, and integration with renewable energy systems
- Strong knowledge of DC/DC converter operation, control logic, and system simulation
- Experience in value engineering, cost optimisation, and performance improvement
- Familiarity with engineering software including MATLAB/Simulink, ETAP, and Homer
- Strong leadership, coordination, and stakeholder management skills
