Overview
We are seeking an Automation Engineer to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise automated machines and production lines. The role involves working with PLC systems, electro-mechanical components, variable frequency drives (VFDs), motors, sensors, and other automation devices. The successful candidate will provide technical support to ensure smooth machine operation, minimise downtime, and recommend improvements.

Key Responsibilities

PLC Systems

  • Monitor PLC programs and machine status remotely

  • Diagnose PLC faults and guide onsite teams on corrective actions

  • Update or modify PLC logic to improve performance or resolve recurring issues

  • Maintain and back up PLC programs for all machines

Electro-Mechanical Components

  • Support troubleshooting of solenoids, relays, switches, actuators, limit switches, and other components

  • Analyse recurring failures and recommend improvements

  • Ensure correct communication between electrical and mechanical components

VFDs and Motors

  • Monitor motor performance, current load, and speed settings

  • Assist with VFD parameter adjustments

  • Identify issues such as overloads, speed fluctuations, or abnormal motor behaviour

  • Guide technicians in replacement or resetting of VFDs and motors as required

Sensors and Instruments

  • Check performance of proximity, photoelectric, encoder, pressure, and temperature sensors

  • Diagnose sensor faults and provide guidance for alignment, cleaning, or replacement

  • Ensure correct signal transmission to PLC systems

Automation Support and Monitoring

  • Monitor machines through dashboards, SCADA, or remote access tools

  • Identify abnormal trends and alert production teams before failures occur

  • Provide immediate support for alarms or faults

  • Maintain clear records of issues, solutions, and recommended preventive actions

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare reports on machine uptime, root cause analysis, and corrective actions

  • Update manuals, wiring diagrams, and PLC logs when changes are made

  • Maintain records of sensor replacements, motor adjustments, and PLC modifications

Training and Coordination

  • Guide technicians and operators in basic troubleshooting

  • Coordinate with maintenance, production, and external vendors for complex issues

  • Support installation and commissioning of new machines

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Diploma or degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related field

  • Strong knowledge of PLC systems and ladder logic programming

  • Experience with VFDs, motors, sensors, and electrical control panels

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

  • Experience with remote machine support is an advantage
