Assistant / Junior Project Manager (Design)
Location: Manchester

A well-established engineering design consultancy is seeking an Assistant / Junior Project Manager to join a friendly and focused civil engineering design team. The role offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement and exposure to a variety of projects within the UK utilities and water sectors.

About the Role
You will support the delivery of smaller design projects or assist senior team members on more complex programmes, ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget, and to required technical and contractual standards. Work will span feasibility, design, and coordination phases, providing strong technical exposure and long-term career progression.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage or assist with multidisciplinary water design projects.

  • Maintain project programmes, plans, and documentation.

  • Coordinate commercial and contractual requirements under NEC contracts.

  • Prepare tender inputs with support from engineering teams.

  • Maintain strong communication with clients and provide clear progress updates.

  • Support design teams, supply chain, and internal engineering disciplines.

  • Assist with managing design changes, variations, and scope adjustments.

  • Promote quality, compliance, and continuous improvement across the team.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Graduate or HND in a relevant technical discipline.

  • 2–5 years’ experience in engineering design, project engineering, project management, construction management, or design management.

  • Experience within regulated sectors such as water, oil & gas, nuclear, highways, or bridges.

  • Strong organisation, planning, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Water industry experience.

  • Multidisciplinary project understanding.

  • NEC or fixed-cost contract experience.

  • Ability to coordinate or lead small technical teams.

  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness.
