Job Description

Reporting Line
The Applications Engineer (Mechanical) will report directly to the Engineering Director with a functional reporting line to the Engineering Manager.

Role
The Applications Engineer will be a technical focal point in the ongoing development and deployment of Compact Workover Rig (CWR) solutions. This role will directly support the Engineering Director, with a functional reporting line to the Engineering Manager, and collaborate with cross-functional project teams to deliver rig-based solutions for plug and abandonment (P&A) and well intervention operations on the UKCS and internationally. The successful candidate will demonstrate creativity in design, a robust understanding of rig-based operations, and the ability to align application engineering activities with strategic rig technology initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the integration of Compact Workover Rig solutions into project scopes, ensuring compatibility with operational, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide oversight and leadership during the project design and operational integration phases.

Design
- Interface with external partners and internal teams to align equipment system design objectives and manufacturing details with project requirements.
- Create, review, and refine designs to meet project specifications and industry standards.
- Serve as the technical documentation focal point for ancillary equipment and interfaces for prime movers and other equipment, including technical files for ATEX and Machinery Directive compliance.
- Support the development of comprehensive technical documentation and reports ready for third-party verification.
- Identify opportunities for design improvements and cost efficiencies.
- Troubleshoot design issues during project implementation and propose effective solutions.
- Support Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Integration Test (SIT) activities.

Operations Integration
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop fit-for-purpose solutions for well P&A and intervention projects.
- Support operations teams by aligning rig design capability with specific well challenges and logistical constraints, ensuring effective deployment of compact rig packages.
- Develop and review interface drawings in conjunction with internal engineering discipline teams, including stack up drawings, PFDs, P&ID, platform modeling, and other facility services interface drawings necessary for equipment mobilization.
- Review equipment installation requirements, such as lift plans, deck loading, hazardous area locations, equipment skidding plans, hose and cable routing, etc.
- Identify operational gaps and propose innovations that enhance performance, reduce emissions, and optimize rig-up/rig-down time.
- Support HAZID and Safety Case tasks, including conducting reviews and report generation.

General
- Report design progress and challenges to senior engineering leadership.
- Ensure all safety standards and policies are adhered to, and deficiencies are reported through appropriate reporting structures and systems.
- Guarantee that all designs comply with relevant design codes, regulations, and quality standards.
- Adhere to all corporate procedures and management systems.
- Support development of detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using Inventor and/or SolidWorks.
- Apply technical problem-solving and critical thinking skills to develop effective solutions.

Qualifications Required

Education:
- Offshore Certificates provided as required
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- Chartered Engineer Status through a recognised professional body

Experience:
- Minimum 10 years in an equivalent role
- Minimum 10 years' experience in the Oil & Gas sector
- Drilling contractor experience or Workover rig and rig solution experience required
- Demonstrable experience with design work related to oilfield services equipment provision
- Proficient in 3D modelling in SD Inventor and/or SolidWorks, including Finite Element Analysis
- Offshore experience preferred
