Overview
An industrial facility is seeking an experienced Ammonia Refrigeration and Utilities Supervisor/Technician to manage and maintain plant utilities, refrigeration systems, and associated equipment. The role involves preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment installation support, and ensuring operational safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on plant utilities equipment

  • Troubleshoot and repair ammonia refrigeration systems

  • Troubleshoot and repair domestic water heating systems

  • Maintain boiler and condenser water chemical systems

  • Maintain refrigeration, cooling tower, and boiler logbooks

  • Execute assigned work orders on time in coordination with planners/schedulers

  • Calibrate assigned equipment and instruments

  • Maintain housekeeping of work areas, maintenance shops, and parts storage areas

  • Manage plant utilities systems, including refrigeration, boilers, HVAC, compressed air, water chemical systems, and domestic water systems

  • Contribute to installation of major plant process and utility equipment/projects

  • Ensure all duties are performed with a focus on safety and quality

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Two-year Associate degree in Mechanical or HVAC preferred

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Senior Technician or Journeyman in ammonia systems

  • Universal HVAC License preferred

  • Must currently hold Ammonia Operator I or equivalent certification

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to perform pump rebuilds, sensor calibrations, and preventive maintenance on MYCOM, Vilter, and Frick compressors

  • Perform ammonia pump outs safely

  • Micro troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude

  • Basic computer skills and ability to use CMMS and Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and follow verbal and written instructions

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical diagrams

  • Complete Boiler Operator I and Ammonia Operator II certifications within 18 months of hire

  • Basic electrical knowledge including NFPA 70e requirements

  • Understanding of plant utilities principles and major production process systems

Physical Requirements

  • Work involves walking, standing, bending, lifting (up to 70 lbs), stooping, turning, pushing/pulling, climbing stairs/ladders, and operating heavy machinery

  • Must be able to work in cold/hot or dusty environments

  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment (safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respirator, protective clothing/footwear)

  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and overtime as required

  • Must communicate and collaborate effectively with co-workers
