Job Title: Senior Geophysicist

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Malaysian candidates only)

Contract: 24-month renewable contract

Overview

A leading oil and gas operator is seeking a Senior Geophysicist to provide technical leadership in seismic interpretation, subsurface imaging, and geophysical analysis. The role supports exploration, appraisal, and field development, integrating seismic, geological, petrophysical, and engineering data to deliver robust subsurface models and de-risk opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Seismic Interpretation & Subsurface Mapping

  • Lead 2D/3D seismic interpretation, structural mapping, stratigraphic analysis, and prospect evaluation
  • Identify reservoir targets, fault geometries, fluid contacts, and geohazards
  • Integrate geological and petrophysical data to refine subsurface frameworks and reduce uncertainties

Seismic Analysis & Reservoir Characterization

  • Perform advanced seismic attribute analysis, AVO/AVA studies, impedance inversion, and quantitative interpretation
  • Support static reservoir model building with geophysical constraints and rock physics insights
  • Assess reservoir heterogeneity, fluid distribution, and connectivity for development optimization

Exploration & Appraisal Support

  • Evaluate exploration leads and prospects, including volumetric assessment, risking, and technical justification
  • Support well planning including trajectory optimization, geohazard analysis, and pore pressure prediction
  • Provide real-time geophysical support during drilling operations as required

Data Acquisition & Processing Oversight

  • Guide seismic survey design, acquisition, reprocessing, and contractor management
  • Ensure data quality, safety, and environmental compliance
  • Recommend new technologies and advanced processing techniques

Technical Leadership & Integration

  • Collaborate with geologists, reservoir engineers, petrophysicists, and drilling teams to deliver integrated subsurface solutions
  • Mentor junior geoscientists and contribute to technical knowledge sharing
  • Prepare technical reports, evaluations, and presentations for management and partners

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geophysics, Geoscience, Earth Sciences, or related discipline
  • 10-15+ years of experience in geophysics within the oil and gas industry
  • Proficiency with geophysical interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom, OpendTect)
  • Experience with seismic processing, quantitative interpretation, inversion, and rock physics highly desirable
  • Proven track record in exploration, appraisal, and/or field development for offshore or onshore assets
  • Strong analytical, collaborative, and communication skills
