Job purpose

Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Market Intelligence & Analytics under the Vice President Corporate Strategy, providing advanced analytical expertise and authoritative market perspectives to support strategic and commercial decision-making. The role is responsible for conducting in-depth analysis of market trends, competitors, customers, and the broader energy sector, while developing and maintaining high-quality market intelligence standards. It involves delivering data-driven insights and forward-looking market views, supporting both long- and short-term planning across corporate functions, and identifying, sourcing, and analyzing internal and external data to generate actionable intelligence. Through robust analytics and expert interpretation of market dynamics, the role contributes to optimizing OQ's portfolio value and strengthening its competitive positioning from a market perspective.

 

The position will act in accordance with the Group's Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani's government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

 

 

Main Accountabilities

  • Perform detailed, structured analyses of market trends impacting OQ, including customer behavior, competitor dynamics, macroeconomic factors, geopolitical developments, and regulatory environments.
  • Translate complex market data into clear, actionable insights and recommendations to support decision-making across OQ SAOC and its subsidiaries.
  • Develop and maintain an expert view of markets and products, including price outlooks, supply-demand dynamics, and future prospects, contributing to forecasting assumptions.
  • Continuously monitor market movements and provide timely analytical inputs to planning and marketing teams to support annual planning cycles and short-term value capture opportunities.
  • Conduct in-depth portfolio performance analysis across multiple dimensions (products, geographies, customer segments, value chains) to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Provide expert input into business feasibility studies, evaluating market attractiveness, risks, and commercial viability.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to understand business needs, share insights, and promote the effective use of market intelligence in decision-making.
  • Identify, evaluate, and integrate relevant external data sources to enhance analytical capabilities and ensure comprehensive market coverage.
  • Contributes to the development, enhancement, and maintenance of systems and tools for capturing and analyzing internal market data.
  • Support the development and application of price benchmarking methodologies across subsidiaries to enhance competitiveness and transparency.
  • Analyze pricing structures, including shadow margins, and provide data-driven insights to support strategic pricing decisions.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on market intelligence matters, providing expert guidance and thought leadership in the interpretation of market data and trends.

Education requirements

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in finance, economics or equivalent

 

 

Language

Bilingual: Arabic and English.

 

 

Background and experience

  • A minimum of 10-12 years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience in market analysis of the energy sector.
  • Experience in developing business / investment case from concept covering feasibility studies.
  • Experience of working with various industry consultants for the Energy sector
