Company: Large Global Engineering Consultancy

Location: Perth, Australia / Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Duration: Beginning of 2025 to End of 2025 (Contract-Based)

Position Overview:

We are advertising on behalf of our client, a large global engineering consultancy, for the position of Lead Subsea Control Engineer for an exciting subsea SURF project in Southeast Asia. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and engineering of the Subsea Control System for the SURF facility, including FPSO topside located equipment and FPSO integration. This will involve developing design concepts, specifications, and criteria, performing analysis and calculations, and ensuring compliance with government regulations and industrial codes. The role is critical in satisfying the company's Scope of Work (SoW) and Basis of Design (BoD) requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the subsea control system engineering for the SURF facility, ensuring the integration of FPSO topside equipment and subsea systems.
  • Develop design concepts, specifications, and criteria for the subsea production control system (SPCS) for deepwater projects with interfaces to floating facilities, including subsea instrumentation, subsea distribution systems, and subsea control topside mounted equipment.
  • Perform analysis and calculations for hydraulic, electrical, and communication systems within the subsea control system.
  • Lead the design and specification of subsea production control systems, ensuring effective communication using fiber optic and power communication methods.
  • Lead the subsea control system integration with FPSO/FPU/Host Platform Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS).
  • Ensure efficient interfacing of subsea control systems with other SURF systems and FPSO/FPU/Host Platform facilities.
  • Oversee the FEED and EPC project activities for subsea control systems, ensuring compliance with project quality control (QC) procedures and timely project delivery from design through to construction and pre-commissioning.
  • Manage and supervise the subsea control system design and integration, ensuring it meets project specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the smooth integration of subsea control systems with other project systems.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to junior engineers, ensuring the technical excellence of the subsea control engineering team.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering-related field (advanced degree preferred). Chartered Engineer status within a recognized engineering institution is highly desirable.
  • At least 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, specifically designing subsea control systems for deepwater projects.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Lead Subsea Control Engineer, including at least two (2) prior roles as Lead Subsea Controls Engineer during the FEED or detailed engineering EPCI stages.
  • Extensive experience in defining subsea control system design and specifications for subsea production control systems in deepwater projects with interfaces to floating facilities.
  • Proficient in hydraulic, electrical, and communication system analysis for subsea control systems.
  • Experience with subsea production control system communication, including fiber optic and communication on power systems.
  • Strong knowledge of subsea control system integration with FPSO/FPU/Host Platform ICSS (Integrated Control and Safety System).
  • Experience working with other SURF systems and FPSO/FPU/Host Platform facilities to ensure seamless integration.
  • Extensive experience in FEED and EPC project activities related to subsea control engineering, with proficiency in all phases of project execution, from design through to construction and pre-commissioning.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage teams and collaborate with other engineering disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the design and integration of subsea control systems for large SURF facilities with multiple subsea wells.
  • In-depth knowledge of quality control procedures and project delivery best practices for subsea control systems.
