Job Title: Lead Pipeline Engineer

Client: Large global engineering consultancy doing a project in South East Asia

Location: Must be based in Jakarta

Job Overview:

The Lead Pipeline Engineer will be responsible for the overall engineering of pipeline systems, including the development of design concepts, criteria, and specifications. This role will involve performing detailed analysis and calculations, as well as reviewing and ensuring compliance with relevant government regulations, industry codes, and best practices. The Lead Pipeline Engineer will ensure that the design satisfies the COMPANY's scope of work (SoW) and Basis of Design (BoD) requirements. The role will also involve leading critical assessments related to pipeline stability, routing, and material selection, particularly for large diameter, deep-water pipelines.

Key Responsibilities:

Pipeline Engineering Design: Develop and oversee pipeline engineering designs, including concepts, design criteria, and specifications, ensuring compliance with COMPANY SoW and BoD requirements.

Route Selection & Assessment: Define and assess pipeline routes for large diameter pipelines, particularly in challenging environments such as deep-water and highly active seismic areas.

Buckling & Stability Analysis: Lead lateral and upheaval buckling assessments along the pipeline route, including recommendations for mitigation strategies. Oversee the assessment of vessel and material requirements for buckling protection, particularly in areas with soft soil, steep angles, or escarpment crossings.

Free Span & On-Bottom Roughness: Manage and perform free span analysis and on-bottom roughness assessments to identify potential issues that may require pre-intervention or rectification works before or after pipelaying.

Shore Approach Design: Lead the design of shore approaches, utilizing both trenching and trenchless methods (such as Horizontal Directional Drilling), as well as pipeline shore pull designs.

Advanced Finite Element Modelling: Oversee finite element modelling for advanced analysis related to free span determination, on-bottom roughness, pipelaying processes, inline structures, HDD simulations, and on-bottom stability.

CO2 Pipeline Design: Provide expertise in CO2 pipeline design, particularly during the FEED and detailed design phases, ensuring adherence to industry standards and safety requirements.

Welding Engineering: Lead welding engineering activities for large bore and deep-water pipelines, with a strong focus on welding methodologies and material selection throughout the project's lifecycle, from FEED to construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning.

Project Coordination & Quality Control: Collaborate with other project teams to ensure seamless integration of pipeline engineering into broader project activities. Ensure strict adherence to quality control and project management procedures.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. An advanced degree in engineering is preferred. Chartered Engineer status with a recognized engineering institution is highly desirable.

Experience:

Minimum of 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.

At least 10 years of experience in pipeline engineering.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in a Lead Pipeline Engineer role.

Significant experience in defining pipeline routes for large diameter pipelines in deep-water and seismic areas.

Experience in leading buckling assessments, including both lateral and upheaval buckling, and recommending mitigation strategies for challenging environments such as escarpment crossings.

Extensive experience managing free span analysis, on-bottom roughness assessments, and pre-intervention or rectification works.

Proven experience in shore approach designs, including both trench and trenchless methods (HDD), as well as pipeline shore pull designs.

Expertise in finite element modelling for pipeline engineering analysis and simulations.

Experience with CO2 pipeline design in both FEED and detailed design stages.

Project Experience: Extensive experience in FEED and EPCI projects related to pipeline engineering, including welding engineering and quality control procedures across all project phases.

Skills and Competencies:

Strong knowledge of pipeline engineering, design, and analysis techniques.

Expertise in buckling analysis, free span determination, and pipeline stability in challenging environments.

Advanced skills in finite element modelling for pipeline systems and related structures.

Experience in pipeline shore approach designs, including trenching and HDD methods.

Proficient in welding engineering and pipeline material selection, particularly for large bore and deep-water pipelines.

Excellent project management skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and manage multiple project priorities.

Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to lead engineering teams and interact effectively with stakeholders.
