Position Overview: As an Automation Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for developing automated/robotic test equipment for the drilling sector. This role will focus on laboratory testing systems for new drilling products. You will ensure project success within a collaborative team environment, adhering to safety standards and legal requirements, interpreting technical specifications, addressing design challenges, and implementing solutions accurately and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop software for automated machinery based on technical requirements.
  • Develop control algorithms for PLC-based systems, including HMI design and sensor interfaces.
  • Create documentation such as bill of materials and operations manuals.
  • Commission and support laboratory test systems.
  • Maintain current applications and troubleshoot reported issues.
  • Promote a proactive health and safety culture in all activities.
  • Collaborate with various departments including quality, procurement, manufacturing, and engineering.

Technical Competencies:

  • Proficiency in control systems and automation software development.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., OPC, MODBUS, Ethernet).
  • Familiarity with machine control systems, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Strong skills in hardware troubleshooting and software debugging.
  • Effective project management and presentation skills.
  • Ability to document and extract requirements from user descriptions.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering roles focused on controls and automation software.
  • Preferred experience with specific hardware and programming environments.
  • Experience in the drilling industry is a plus.
